The renovations, which have been under way since Jan. 7, will allow citizens to place all of their recyclables—paper, plastic and household metals—into one container.
Improvements to the recycling center, at 1919 Scanlin Rd. were funded through a grant from the Houston-Galveston Area Council of Governments.
Five days after reopening—March 26—the recycling complex will be the center of attention for the City’s “Spring Clean, Green & ‘E’ Recycle” event from 8 a.m. to noon. Individuals will be able to dispose of various items, including paint products, old electronics and cell phones, pesticides and fertilizers, household cleaners, car and home batteries and pool chemicals.
“Missouri City’s recycling initiatives, including the updated center, are geared toward keeping our communities clean and green for generations to come,” said City Forester Paul Wierzbicki. “We encourage residents to use our facilities and to get involved in environmental projects citywide.”
In addition to the recycling locations, drop boxes for old or broken cell phones are still available at City Hall and the Community Center, both located at 1522 Texas Parkway, in the Municipal Court building, 3845 Cartwright Road, and in the Police Department lobby, at 3849 Cartwright Road. Also, Missouri City residents can tap into the interactive recycling kiosk in the lobby of the Community Center, which is next to City Hall. The high-tech touch screen menu allows residents to type in materials they need to recycle and provides a list of places that accept the disposables. The booth also has helpful tips on being environmentally conscious such as how to save some green with the latest news and trends on saving the planet, how to reduce carbon footprints with recycling 101 basics and when recycling events are coming to the area.
Missouri City residents are also eligible to participate in a $50 voucher program due to an agreement between the City and Fort Bend County. The partnership allows residents to use the voucher to defray or help defray the cost when using the recycling facility in Rosenberg, located at 1200 Blume Rd.
